‘Tis almost the season for holiday cheer, end of year celebrations, and of course, the work Christmas party. You may think you’ve still got time, but you don’t!
Those Christmas Party dates are already getting booked up, so if you haven’t squared your work-do away, we’re here to inspire your plans.
1. Mark the date & set your budget
First things first, work out when and how much. Christmas is a busy period for social events, especially for our little town – which means venues, caterers, activities etc, are all in demand. Get a date in your team’s diary as soon as possible, and if you can set a budget, it means you can enlist someone to help you with your planning.
2. Book the venue
The best venues get booked up fast. Taupo has an abundance of options from restaurants to boats, and venues that combine location with activity in the same breath. In choosing a venue, match it (as closely as possible) to suit the mood of the team you are taking, best fit will ensure the majority have a great time.

3. Sort out entertainment
Here’s your chance to get creative! Most businesses either attempt new and different, or do the same thing and establish a tradition. Whether you theme your event and engage a hire service to guide you, enlist entertainment like a musician, magician or hypnotist, or get your team doing an activity – Taupo has a great range of options right under your nose.
Tongariro River Rafting gives your team the real outdoors experience this Christmas. Raft down the Tongariro River and then stop for a BBQ on the banks of the river, in a picturesque and serene spot only accessible by raft. It’s the ultimate way to relax and unwind after a busy year with your team in the great outdoors.

4. Plan the menu & drinks
Probably the most important part. Find caterers that can work to your budget and theme. The best start is to get their recommendations, they’ll know what works, and if you have preferences, they’ll always have options and be able to work around your choices. (Make sure you’ve asked about your team’s allergies and dietary requirements).
5. Organise transport
As a responsible host, make sure people know about getting to and from the event, if it’s a surprise – you’re in charge of organising it. Arrange carpooling, have the local taxi numbers available for anyone who may need them on the night.
And if you’re really stuck, remember it’s not just on you to plan a great party, brainstorm with your team/staff for ideas on what they want to do – they’ll love to get involved. Think about adding a cherry on top like hiring a photographer or photobooth, competitions and prizes throughout the night, or goodie bags – it’s the little things that make a big difference.
Here’s hoping you have a Christmas cracker of a party, good luck!
