New Industrial Park in Town

Transforming a derelict vacant block of land into a hub of industrial businesses, Hard As Developments Ltd is changing the face of Taupō’s industrial area.

A new, modern subdivision adding to Taupō’s existing industrial business base is under construction on the new Keehan Drive near the end of Crown Road and Mitre 10, a short drive away from the town centre. The subdivision’s 12 lots will bring together likeminded, premium businesses that will provide a range of industrial-related services. With four already under construction and others starting soon, locals will see the area develop over the next 12 months.

Jamie Keehan, Director, spotted the opportunity and bought the land in 2016, with a vision of a new industrial area with a street appeal, overcoming the current congestion of existing industrial areas. The subdivision is spread across 42,000 square metres of what was old rural land, and gives businesses the opportunity to start fresh or expand over generous land parcels. Local team of Logan and Lee Frew from Coresteel have secured the first three industrial builds in the sub-division proving the flow on benefits to the local community.

New shopping destination

When asking businesses what they really want, Jamie found that the larger lot sizes are what really appeal to businesses to allow them to cater for showrooms as well as manufacturing and warehouse storage.

“With the lack of extra space in the current industrial areas as well as offering exposure to SH 1 and Crown Road, this development compliments the recent Mitre 10 one as a destination for locals.”

Better business

The subdivision has attracted many large businesses, the first being Mainfreight, which you’ll now be able to see when you drive past. Thanks to its handy location, Mainfreight’s base is more central to delivery areas and highways, resulting in more efficient operation. Apex Windows & Doors is the next one under construction – a locally owned windows and joinery business that will cater for its manufacturing side of the business as well as a customer friendly showroom.

From multi-unit business complexes to large showrooms, locals will soon see some exciting new buildings and businesses mark their place in Taupō’s new industrial hub.

With only two lots left to sell, the demand has been strong. There are still options for businesses who want to lease buildings and get a design and build package arranged so that they get the best benefits of a brand-new building, designed to meet their specific needs, in a popular new industrial sub-division.
